Settings and themes
What each Settings tab changes, where your settings are kept, and every keyboard shortcut.
Open Settings with ⌘,. It has six tabs: General, Appearance, Terminal, GitHub, Cloud and Keyboard.
General
- Command line: installs the
muxencommand for your terminal and your AI agents, or says where it already is. See Command line. - Clipboard: Share the clipboard with your machines. Copy on this computer, paste on a machine’s desktop, and back. Passwords stay here.
- Editor: which editor Open in editor uses first: Zed, Cursor or VS Code (with Remote - SSH), whichever you have.
muxen edituses it too. - Tailscale: whether this computer is on your tailnet and how many of your machines are on it. Muxen never changes Tailscale’s settings; see Connections.
- Machine checks: Check machines every so many minutes. A check is read-only, over ssh. Set it to 0 to check only when you ask (⌘R).
- Machines file: where
config.tomlis, with buttons to open it or show it in Finder.
Appearance
Choose System, Light or Dark. System follows your computer. Light and dark each have their own theme, so switching keeps your pick for both.
- Themes: Muxen Dusk (dark) and Muxen Dawn (light) are the defaults. Also Muxen Graphite and Muxen Paper, and popular ones: Catppuccin, Tokyo Night, Nord, Rosé Pine, Gruvbox, Solarized, Dracula, Everforest, Kanagawa and GitHub, most in light and dark.
- Icons: how the icons in the sidebar and on pages look. Minimal (the default) is plain gray line icons; Tiles, Soft, Duotone, Rounded and Fluent add color.
Terminal
How agent sessions and shells look:
- Font: any monospace font installed on this computer, each shown in itself.
- Text size: also ⌘+ and ⌘− while a terminal has focus, ⌘0 to reset.
- Line height: Compact, Normal or Relaxed.
- Cursor: whether it blinks while the terminal has focus.
A preview shows the result as you change it. Reset goes back to the defaults.
GitHub
- Account: who Muxen is signed in as, through the GitHub CLI or a
GITHUB_TOKEN. Sign in with GitHub when you aren’t. - Watching: the organizations and repositories whose runners and jobs Muxen follows. Your organizations are listed, so watching one is a click. When watching an organization needs the
admin:orgpermission, Grant access adds it. - Syncing: Sync GitHub every so many seconds (20 by default; unchanged answers don’t count against GitHub’s rate limit), and how many recently pushed repositories per organization to scan for jobs.
Cloud
- Usage and cost: what your cloud machines cost this month and what they will by month’s end, with your DigitalOcean bill when the sign-in can read it.
- DigitalOcean: sign in with the Browser, an API token (read and write), or
doctlif you use it. - New machines: the default Region, Size, and what each one Comes with (Docker, the GitHub CLI, Node with Claude Code and Codex, Tailscale and more).
- Tailscale key: with one saved, new machines join your tailnet by themselves. Without one, Muxen opens Tailscale’s approval page for each.
- When one sits idle: after so many hours with no busy session, running job or CPU use, tell you, power it off, or destroy it. A powered-off droplet is still billed. Muxen has to be open to notice.
See Cloud machines.

Where settings live
Settings, the look of the app and your machines are all in one file, config.toml, in ~/.config/muxin (%APPDATA%\muxin on Windows). Muxen writes the [settings] and [ui] sections and the [[machine]] entries, and keeps your comments on machines. You can edit it by hand; the app picks up changes.
